Strength vs. Aesthetics

Bodybuilding has come a long, long way. What was centuries ago as a very raw indulgence of building muscles that signified beauty and strength, is today an almost mainstream sport. The evidence of naked and ripped Greek and Roman statues stands as proof to the fact that people with such physiques were worshipped as Gods. Most of the ancient world imagined their Gods with muscular physiques who could do anything and everything. Fast-forward a few thousand years, and the early era of bodybuilding saw people like Eugene Sandow and Charles Atlas performing great feats of strength to impress audiences. People associated muscular men with rogues or circus freaks that traveled to different towns to show off their muscular physiques and entertain people.

The Lat Pulldown, with no hands?

All weightlifters are familiar with the infamous lat pull-down. The different hand positions, choices of handles and bars, close, mid and wide grips. Though has anyone considered no grip at all? Making use of the straps used for abdominal leg raises creates a movement that better isolates the latissimus dorsi muscles. The typical lat pulldown variations are great but they make use of the arms which divides focus away from the arms. Best known as the Thib Pulldown, this may be good if a compound movement is desired, but to better engage and stimulate the lats try letting go so to speak. Have a look at this video to see this technique in action.
