Who is the strongman on the cover of Van Halen's
5150 album? The mystery man on the cover of the album is Rick Valente, a bodybuilder active mostly during the 1980's and 1990's. Despite his impressive physique Valente never turned pro. Despite this he was very active in the bodybuilding community by capitalizing on his impressive body. He was frequently seen at the Muscle Beach scene in Venice, CA. Seen training among bodybuilding fixtures like Hulk Hogan, Lou Ferrigno, and Flex Wheeler he was certainly in good company.
Throughout the 1980's and 1990's Valente appeared in various television and print advertisements as well as various fitness magazine covers. He also hosted the syndicated fitness program
Body Shaping on ESPN.
Though he never turned pro he competed and placed in various bodybuilding competitions such as Mr. Los Angeles, Mr. Golden Coast, and Mr. California. He booked the famed Van Halen album cover when the band held a casting call for a bodybuilder at Gold's Gym in Venice, CA. After posing for the cover he got to spend three days partying with the band.
